Dear Parker (Our Fifth Month)

Dear little sunshine,

Five months. I cannot believe how fast time is going by. Are you really this active and playful? I can't believe it. I cannot believe how much you learn in such a short amount of time. It is absolutely shocking. You were just a blob your first month. You ate, pooed, slept, repeat. Now you have a schedule and play so much in between the few naps you take. So crazy how you grow and learn.

You started solids. We gave you a banana for your first solid food. I may have made a mistake in giving you something so sweet at first, but I just couldn't help it! Bananas make you squeal like R2D2 (Scrub reference). Your next food was green beans. You were not having it. Once that spoon hit your tongue, you pushed the food out, then gagged and coughed until Mama had to get you out to make sure you weren't choking. Dramatic baby.

You are totally a little fish. You have been in swim lessons since you were 10 weeks, but now that summer is here, you have a lot more free swim, rather than structure. Oh boy, do you love it. It is even more special because your pup can join you. The floaty we have for you allows you to stand and walk on the stair and you just cannot get enough of being able to walk! It is just so funny. You giggle for a moment after you walk off the edge, then you want to go back to your stair. Swimming is definitely something I will keep you in.

You are much more playful with your cousins. The youngest two love you so much. Lilly even named all of her dolls Parker. Because you are not as fragile, the older ones have a bit more freedom with you. When you have five older, girl cousins, you are going to get a lot of attention. It is always fun to see you guys play and you seriously love it.

You have entered the most snuggly stage yet and it is the best because you have the choice to snuggle now. Before, you could not lift your head to get away from us, now you are all cuddles and love. You are learning to kiss those big, slobbery, open mouth kisses. We cannot get enough of them!

One of the funniest things that calms you is taking selfies, duh. You absolutely love the reverse camera on the iPhone and will go from throwing a fit to laughing as soon as you see it. You love FaceTiming too. You called your Grandma and Grandpa the other day and were smiling the whole time. When you FaceTime Mama, you just want to kiss and snuggle with the phone. It melts my heart.

You started sleeping in the cutest way. I've been looking forward to the butt-in-the-air sleep. I did it, your uncles did it, most babies do it, but it is different when you see your baby do it. It makes you just want to lay there and watch him sleep. You also found your thumb. As cute as it is, it is a habit I do not want to start. So we just pull your hand down gently and say "no thumbs, baby" and you smile and forget about it. It really is adorable though.

When people look at you, they see your Daddy, but really, you look a lot like me as a baby, not as dark featured though. You have your Daddy's "Jesus (auburn) hair" and his paler complexion, but you have my big eyes, my small ears, round face, big lips, and overall looks. Take that, Eric!

Post Script... your hair is growing in and you are capable of bed head.

You are able to sit on your own for a few seconds at a time and you can stand assisted for a long while. You seem to have some super human strength. Most babies your age can't do this stuff. I know you are just preparing me early for the chaos you will cause in a six months or so.

Parker, you are just a happy baby. You smile and laugh all the time and I am so grateful for that. I love you more than words can express. You are the sunshine in so many lives, especially mine.  I just cannot get over it. You have become a little gentleman and it amazes me every single day. Thank you, baby, for allowing me the honor of being your mother.
